For students age 5 and over (by Sept. 1).
Contemporary tap style is taught throughout the program, at appropriate times other tap styles are introduced such as soft shoe, waltz clog, buck & wing, charleston, latin and jazz-tap, etc. Examinations available.
 
Intro ~ 30 weeks - Combination Class 45 mins (see Introduction Program)
Junior ~ 35 weeks
40 minute classes per week
1st payment September
2nd payment January
Inter-senior ~ 35 weeks
50 minutes per week
1st payment September
2nd payment January


TAP CLASSES OUTLINE

Introduction to Tap and Jazz - 5 years by December 31st, 45 minute classes/per week for 30 weeks

BEGINNER Age 6-7 Complete Junior 1
8-10 Complete Junior I plus material added for mature students 
11-12 Complete Junior 1 and Junior 2 
Teen/Adult- Complete Junior 1, Junior 2, Junior 3 plus material added for mature students


JUNIOR LEVELS - Requirements for Junior
(Junior 1/ Junior 2/ Junior 3)

Approximately 3 years to complete - work escalates over the three years in general class form

1. Good quality tap sounds at grade level 
2. Good elevation on designated movements 
3. Clear definition of metatarsal area from heel of foot 
4. Good triplets backward at moderato time signature 
5. Preparatory work towards wings and pickups 
6. Good basic single parallel pirouette 
7. Ability to keep time to music 
8. Reasonably consistent use of ball of the foot
9. Good retention of materials week to week 
10. Clearly defined basic arm lines 
11. Satisfactory posture and poise in tap styling 
12. Consistent work habits/good attendance

EXAMINATION - STUDIO EVALUATIONS - PRIMARY - PRE-BRONZE - BRONZE AWARD


ELEMENTARY LEVELS - Requirements for Elementary
(Elementary 4/ Elementary 5/ Elementary 6)

Approximately 3 years to complete - Work escalates over the three years in general class form

1. Very good quality tap sounds at grade level 
2. Ability developing in fast and slow tap 
3. Good understanding of riffs 
4. Knowledgeable of timesteps 
5. Competent pickups 
6. Competent wings 
7. Excellent use of ball of foot
8. Very good musical sense and knowledge of tap terminology at grade level 
9. Ability to pick up new material at first lesson 
10. Full retention of material from week to week 
11. Ability to interpret and understand different tap styles 
12. Good work habits/good attendance

EXAMINATION - STUDIO EVALUATIONS - SILVER-GOLD-SAPPHIRE AWARD


INTERMEDIATE LEVELS - Requirements for Intermediate
(Intermediate 7/ Intermediate 8/ Intermediate 9)

Approximately 3 years to complete - Work escalates over the three years in general class form

1. High quality tap sounds at grade level 
2. Greater complexity in intricate foot patterns 
3. Use of diverse rhythm patterns and skills 
4. Further advancement of wings 
5. Further advancement of pickups 
6. Advancement riffs/turns and progressions 
7. Good comprehension of rhythm patterns 
8. Broadening base and repertoire of different tap styles 
9. Accuracy in all arm and foot patterns
10. Excellent memorization 
11. Very good work habits/good attendance 
12. Ability to count verbally rhythm of movements musically

EXAMINATION - STUDIO EVALUATIONS - AMBER - AMETHYST - EMERALD AWARD


SENIOR LEVEL - Requirements for Senior
(Senior 10/ Senior 11/ Senior 12)

Approximately 3 years to complete - Work escalates over the three years in general class form

1. Excellent beats, tone and light and shade 
2. Good musical sense and able to count all tap combinations musically 
3. Advanced wings 
4. Advanced pickups 
5. Knowledge of timestep variations 
6. Good multiple turns 
7. Fast study 
8. Fully prepared on material for next class 
9. Ability in all tap styles achieved 
10. Improvisational and choreographic sense developed 
11. Excellent work habits - near perfect attendance 
12. Dedicated student
