General Information
1st month trial period.
The London Dance Centre welcomes all new students to
the studio to try the first four lessons in September as a
trial period, without paying a tuition or purchasing regulation
dancewear.
One lesson is not enough, after one month you know whether
or not your child will be interested in attending for the
balance of the year and as a parent, it gives you a chance
to assess the quality at the school.
After the first four lessons, students are expected to complete
the dance year, as their place cannot be given to another
student.
No new students without dance experience are taken after
the first month.
Tuition for the full term is expected after the first month
for new students who participate in our trial period policy.
| 1. |
Official holidays are not charged. The season is extended
for classes cancelled by the school and additional Monday
and Friday holidays.
|
| 2. | Parents are invited to observe classes throughout the season to prearranged dates set by the school.
|
| 3. | Students must wear regulation dancewear to all classes. Beginners are requested to obtain school dancewear after the first month.
|
| 4. |
The school does not accept students who study dance
at other facility (other than academic schools) if we
offer the subject at the same age and dance level. Technical
requirements vary with different studios. It is counter
productive for students to study more than one method
of training.
|
| 5. |
New students to the school are given the first month
to see if they wish to remain. All students are expected
to complete the full year after the first month. No tuition
refunds are given unless leaving the city, health issues
or family trauma.
|
| 6. |
We regret a student may not commence the next term until
the previous term is paid in full or their installments
are up to date. NSF cheques, there is a $25.00 processing
fee.
|
| 7. |
Parents who need financial consideration should speak
with Victoria Carter, to see if assistance is available.
All accounts and their status are strictly kept confidential. |
| 8. |
We will be pleased to answer any questions you might have regarding your child.

PROMOTION POLICY
The student has been placed in a class to meet her dance
requirements and to ensure satisfactory progress, throughout
the season, if the student works to her ability. A student
placement must be evaluated each year. Depending on age and
physical dexterity, the rate of progress varies according
to the demands of various stages of dance training.
Parents and students should also be aware that additional
lessons in the same or other dance subjects may result in
faster progress than for a student who takes fewer classes
per week. The school's intensive summer program may also influence
a student's placement in September. A student must
respond to a reasonable level of their ability to continue at
the London Dance Centre.
SEVERE WEATHER CANCELLATION
We call a student's home once to cancel classes due to bad
weather, if we receive no answer we cannot make additional
calls. If a weather advisory has been announced and you have
not been home part of the day - please contact the school
to see if classes are being held. If no one is home during
the day your business number can be left at the desk.
Students who make their own way from school at 4:30 p.m. should
inform us of their academic school to avoid traveling to class,
only to find classes are not being held. Please notify us
of any change of address or telephone number during the season.
Please check the website for current cancellations!
STUDENT SAFETY
We hope parents will support our staff's efforts to have
the children wait inside the building to be picked up after
class. The children can see your car pull up from the waiting
room windows. We realize it is more convenient for the children
to wait outside to be picked up, but if you are inadvertently
delayed your child may end up being the only child outside
on the curb, in the dark.
If you wish your child to wait outside (older students) please
encourage them to wait on the well lighted verandah area with
quick access to the doorbell, so a staff member can be promptly
alerted.
The staff will encourage the children to wait inside or on
the verandah; but we do not wish to discuss with the children
the reasons for this policy. We strongly feel the parents
know best how to discuss this topic with their own child,
without causing undo anxiety for their child. The very young
children will remain with our receptionist until you arrive.
We have never had any unfortunate occurrences; but in this
day and age we feel our policy should be discussed between
you and your child.
PARKING
Free parking is ample surrounding the building, however,
there is no parking the few feet in front of the studio entrance.
If you sit parked in this area more than a minute, you may
be ticketed by the traffic commissioner.
STUDENT INFORMATION
We ask that you follow the following guidelines, for the
purpose of self discipline- an important requirement for a
good learning experience and for the benefit of all students'
progress.
1. All students are expected to wear regulation dancewear
at all classes. Beginners are advised to obtain the uniform
after the first month trail period.
2. We must insist on "correct" uniform in all classes. A lack
of the school's "dress code" results in the teacher's inability
to see physical problems, which need correction, and reflects
an undisciplined approach to work habits, which shows in the
student's progress.
3. Hairstyles that are very acceptable generally, are not
practical in class, because of the importance of showing correct
head and shoulder lines, and are a big problem when trying
to perform any type of quick turning step.
4. We reserve the right to refuse a student active participation
in class if not correctly attired, and without a reasonable
excuse. The school cannot provide equipment on loan to students
who forget dancewear.
5. Please label clearly all shoes, dancewear, and winter boots.
We are not responsible for lost articles or clothing.
6. White socks may be worn in place of tights during May and
June.
7. No jewellery except small earrings for pierced ears.
8. Gum chewing is not permitted in class.
9. Please be prompt; latecomers restrict the class's progress.
10. All money and valuables (watches, etc..) should be brought
into the studio. Do not leave them in the dressing room.
11. Parents are asked not to leave students and other children
unsupervised in the building more than 15 mins. before or
after class. Sisters who wait for a sister still in class
must be supervised by a parent and not allowed to wander throughout
the school. We cannot have the responsibility of these students
and children beyond the expected time of supervision.
12. Senior students should not arrive more than 20 mins. prior
to class and leave directly after, except wherein there is
a suitable reason.
13. Students who are reprimanded for "excessive" noise or
disturbance while waiting, will be warned once, their parents
notified the 2nd time, and asked to discontinue class the
3rd time.
14. Barring sudden illness or injury, students must present
a note from a parent to be excused from participation in class.
Students attending to observe class when unable to participate
is very helpful to their continued progress. Parents will
be notified if a student does not participate or is unable
to complete a class, for whatever reason.
BEHAVIOR POLICY
Dance training is a discipline. Progress only flourishes
in a disciplined but joyful atmosphere. Students who require
too much of the teacher's attention due to unsatisfactory
behavior, creates a negative atmosphere for the other students.
Constant reprimands to one or two students not only affects
everyone's physical progress, but spoils class enjoyment for
all.
Students who do not comply with the studio's behavior policy
will be removed from the classes (with fees refunded), at
anytime throughout the dance season.
